Lenore S. Bjurberg, 80 of California, MD, died on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at her residence.

Born on February 17, 1924 in Bessemer, AL, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Madison and Margaret Teresa Gib Snider.

Mrs. Bjurberg served the American Red Cross as a volunteer for over fifty years. She first served as a Motor Corps driver in Birmingham, AL. after her first marriage to Leonard W. Shaw she served as Vice Chairman of Red Cross Youth in the North Shore Queens Chapter, Flushing, NY; as a member of the Board of Directors of that chapter and as a member of the Volunteer Advisory Board of Red Cross in Greater New York.
During the period 1968 to 1975 she served as regional chairman of volunteers at then Eastern Area headquarters, Alexandria, VA and as volunteer assistant to the National Chairman of Volunteers at the Red Cross national headquarters, Washington, DC.
She represented the American Red Cross as its Deputy National Representative to the Veterans Administration Voluntary Service Advisory Committee from October 1971 to December 1974. She became National Representative to the VAVS advisory in January 1975, and served in that capacity until December 31, 1976.
After she and her husband moved to Calvert County, MD she continued in her interest in Red Cross serving as Chairman of Volunteers for the County Chapter. Mr. Shaw died in 1988. She re-married in 1991 and continued her volunteer activities as a member of the Calvert County Lioness Club, Calvert County Nursing Center Auxiliary, Republican Women of St. Mary?s, Southern Maryland Chapter of Military Officers, Association of America MOAA, Associate member of Solomon Island yacht Club and a member of the Chesapeake hills Gulf Club ? Women?s League. She was devoted to her catholic faith and regularly attended Our Lady Star of the Sea.

She is survived by her husband Richard Bjurberg, two sisters, Mary Sue Griffin of Roanoke, VA and Margaret McConnell of Mount Pleasant, SC.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, 2004 at 4:00 pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Solomons, MD. The Reverend Richard E. Gardiner will be the celebrant. Interment will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD.
