Martha Jane Schuman (Thorne), 79, of California MD, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
Martha was born April 3, 1941 in Meadows, Maryland to the late Richard and Margaret Thorne. She was one (1) of seven (7) children.
Martha graduated from Frederick Sasser High School in 1959. She then met the very handsome and charming, Jimmie Schuman. It was love at first sight and together they shared 35 years of delightful marriage before his passing in September, 2013.
Martha supported her family by working as a secretary for the U.S. Air Force on Andrews Air Force Base, for 15 years. She had a strong work ethic and excelled at her job. As much as she loved her job, she loved staying at home with her four (4) children. Nothing meant more to Martha than family. She was proud of being a homemaker and providing a wonderful home for her family. She felt blessed to have such wonderful children so when she became a grandmother she was over the moon with love. Baking and cooking with her grandchildren, and making so many fond memories. A beautiful day, she enjoyed sitting outside with a good book feeling the warmth of the sun and listening to the birds sing their songs.
Martha is survived by her children, Jimmie Dale Schuman, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, Gregory McVerry of Mechanicsville, MD, Bruce Schuman of Bath, NH, and daughter; Sharon McVerry of Felton, DE; and her brothers; James Thorne of Mechanicsville, MD, and John Thorne of Baltimore, MD.
She is preceded in death by parents, Russell Thorne and Margaret Thorne; her husband, Jimmie D. Schuman, Sr.; and siblings, Charles Thorne, Paul Thorne, Ruth Alvey and Elsie Saylor.
The family will receive friends for Marthaโs Life Celebration on February 9, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, 30195 Three Notch Rd, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622, with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Deacon Bill Kyte (from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church).
