74, of Waldorf
Mary Elizabeth Matthews, 74, of Waldorf died April 30, 2004 at Alexandria Hospital Center, Alexandria, Va. She was a waitress working with local 25 Union Hotels and Resturants. Born August 25, 1929 in Lowell, Massachusetts she was the daughter of the late Ernest Cole and the late Evelyn Nash Cole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Taylor and Hugh D. Matthews; son, Hugh D. Matthews, Jr.; brothers, Arthur Cole and Ernest Cole; sister, Geraldine Thurlow. She is survived by son, Jerry Matthews, of Mechanicsville; daughters, Esther E. Toth and her husband, James, of Indian Head, Susan C. Meredith and her husband, Ed, of Gettysburg, PA., Mary E. Cooney and her husband, Lou, of Fredericksburg, Va.; brothers, Jermiah Cole and John Cole; sisters, Margaret Leverone, Theresa Kacavas and Delores Wessinger; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 with prayer service at 7 p.m. at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata. Service will take place Wednesday, May 5 graveside at 10 A.M. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham. The Rev. William Miller will officiate.
