Muriel Agnes Pitman Craven died peacefully on December 9, 2014. She is survived by her son Thomas Edward Craven and his wife Linda Craven. She is also survived by her daughter Cynthia Craven Richardson (CA). Pre-deceasing her was her oldest son Robert Lee Craven Junior who had lived with his wife Ann Peacock Craven in Orlando West Virginia. Preceding her was her loving husband of 58 years Robert Lee Craven. Mrs. Craven had four grandchildren: Stephanie Richardson Baxter, Stuart Richardson, Kimberly Craven Cosler, and Thomas Andrew Craven. In addition Muriel Craven had 9 great-grandchildren: Savannah, Lindsay and Connor Craven; Julia and Jase Richardson; Hannah and Katie Baxter; Ava and Hal Cosler.
For many years Muriel Craven was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wilmington Delaware. She said that her one constant in life as she moved from place to place was her church. She was involved with many different projects through her church and volunteered to assist the needy.
Muriel Craven suffered from medical conditions that necessitated her living at Asbury-Solomons in Solomons, Maryland, near her son Thomas and his wife Linda. Muriel Craven was born in 1920 and graduated with honors from high school during the depression. She went to work as a secretary for the DuPont Company in Niagara Falls New York.
There she met her husband, Robert Craven. After a brief engagement they were married July 3, 1942 and were happily married for over 58 years. Through the years Muriel Craven loved to knit and made various projects including Christmas stockings for all of the family members. She knit her last stocking at age 92 and was still reading novels up to her death. Muriel was one of three children born to Thomas and Mabel Pitman of Niagara Falls New York. Her sister Avis and her brother John Pitman predeceased her. Johnโs wife Enid is living in NJ. John and Enid Pitman’s children, Muriel’s dear nieces and nephews grew up in Moorestown New Jersey and are living in New Jersey and Arizona.
They are Thomas Pitman, Margaret Pitman Hall, Elizabeth Pitman Baldt, and Daniel Pitman. In addition to knitting, Muriel had a love of typing and cross word puzzles. She was an avid reader of mysteries and always read the ending first.
Muriel will be missed by friends and family as she was a caring person, good listener, had a quick wit and was fun to be around.
Murielโs memorial service will be at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wilmington DE on Sunday, December 14th at 1:30 PM. Arrangements by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home.
