Russell Austin Maddox of California, Maryland died at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC on January 29, 2003. He was 85 years old.
Born on October 4, 1917 in Nanjemoy, Maryland to the late Carrie Katherine Skinner and Reuben Austin Maddox. Mr. Maddox served in the U. S. Army during World War II before being Honorably Discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. He was a retired Federal employee of the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River, Maryland with 37 years of service as a Steamfitter. After retirement, he followed his love of Decorative Wildfowl and Bird Carving. He participated in various shows and was a charter member of the Craft Guild of St. Mary?s and the Old Mill. Mr. Maddox was an active member of the Thomas J. Shryock Masonic Lodge Number 223 Hollywood, Maryland where he was a Past Master and a 32nd Degree Mason. Also a member of the Eastern Star of Hollywood, Maryland where he was a Past Patron. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings Mabel Taylor, William and Alton Maddox.
He is survived by his wife Aurilee Maddox; daughters Elaine Fry of California, MD and Karen Boone of Great Mills, MD; grandchildren Timothy Fry and Shawn Fry of Salisbury, MD and Shannon Boone of Great Mills, MD; sisters Bertha Milstead of Indian Head, MD and Jeanette Duke of White Plains, MD, Mary Ogline of Sanford, FL and Hazel Brady of Indian Head, MD; brothers Walter Maddox of Chester, MD and Wallace Maddox of La Plata, MD.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 2, 2003 from 2-6PM with Prayers, Eastern Star and Masonic Memorial Services beginning at 4PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Monday, February 3, 2003 at the Hollywood United Methodist Church in Hollywood, Maryland. The Reverend Owens to officiate. Interment to follow at Joy Chapel Cemetery.
