She was born on February 26, 1917 in Ridge, MD, the daughter of the late Alfred Orem and Mary T. Wilkinson Hammett.
Mrs. Gerek was a member of St. Cecilia?s Catholic Church, St. Mary?s City, MD, and the St. Mary?s County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed quilting for family and friends.
Her children, Mary Rosalie Pace of Denham Springs, LA, Cyril P. Gerek, and Charles M. Gerek both of Park Hall, MD, Roderick E. Gerek and Francis J. Gerek both of St. Mary?s City, MD, two sisters, Hilda Kohut, of St. Mary?s City, MD, Agnes Ridgell, Morganza, MD, three sons, Alfred O. Hammett of Valley Lee, MD, Michael Hammett, of Ridge, MD, Richard Hammett of Wewahitchka, FL, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril Joseph Gerek on December 7, 1978, a daughter Elizabeth Ann Stewart, two sisters, Alice Alvey, Lorrena Hammett, and a brother John Abell Hammett, a grand daughter, Amanda Leigh Gerek also preceded her in death.
Friends gathered on Monday June 23, 2003 at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Prayers were recited at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at St. Cecilia?s catholic church. 47950 Mattapony Road, St. Mary?s City, MD. The Reverend Damian Shadwell was the celebrant. Interment followed in St. James Cemetery, Lexington Park, MD.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Gerek were, Russell Gerek, Jeffrey Gerek, Andrew Gerek, Robert Pace, Pete Pace and Jay Pace.
