Born on August 5, 1942 in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Fred Mitchell, Jr. and Pearl Ruby Barnhart Wolfinger. He has resided in this area for 18 years. He worked for the Federal Government as a Logistics Management Specialist. Prior he served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1963 and from 1964 until 1982 when he retired SKCM. His duty stations were Naval Base Bermuda, USS Shenandoah AD26, Naval Air Reserve Training Unit in Memphis, TN, USS Raleigh LPD1, Military Advisor Group Vietnam, USS Takelma ATF-113 Hawaii, Naval Surface Atlantic, Norfolk, VA, Naval Station Keflavik, Iceland and Navy Recruiting Area Four in Columbus, OH. He also was a member of V.F.W. Post 2632 in California, MD and at Jameson-Harrison Post 238 American Legion in Hughesville, MD and was the Finance Officer for 15 years.
His wife of 40 years, Cathy Lee McCarter Wolfinger, daughter Lisa Anne Lourenzo of Woodbridge, VA, and William Mitchell Wolfinger, Jr. of Blacklick, OH survive Mr. Wolfinger. Six grandchildren, Lee Anne Harper, Logan, Chris, Matt Lourenzo, Caroline and Grace Wolfinger and one great-granddaughter, Britney Harper survives him. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the Hagerstown, MD area, also survive him.
Family received friends on Thursday, February 26, 2004 from 5-8PM in the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD with American Legion prayers held at 7:30PM where A Funeral Service will be held today, Friday, February 27, 2004 at 11AM. Interment will be held Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 11AM in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Reverend Kevin Davis will officiate.
