Waldorf, Md.— The SMAC season is upon us, and the North Point Eagles squared up against the Thomas Stone Cougers Friday, Sept. 4. The game was won on tough play in the trenches.ย

North Point came into the game feeling confident that they could easily handle their opponent, but they were in for a surprise. Thomas Stone had five returning seniors coming back from a record season just a year ago. Thomas Stone’s defensive front was up for the challenge of containing North Point’s offense.ย

The first quarter was a defensive struggle only netting three total points going to North Point on a field goal. Both teams were feeling each other out like any other great match-up.ย

The play that electrified the North Point crowd was a 93 yard touchdown run by quarterback Jemichael Jones. The offensive line created a huge hole, enabling Jones to out run every defender to the end zone. The score after that touchdown was 9-0 North Point.ย

“I have to give all the credit to my offensive line, those guys worked so hard for me tonight. They gave a total effort out there on the field,”said Jones.ย

Thomas Stone was able to put six points on the board, with drives that resulted in field goals. Thomas Stone mounted impressive drives but the penalties really hurt the progress.ย

The game would finish 9-6 with North Point outlasting Thomas Stone. The game was a defensive struggle with both teams generating multiple turnovers to stall the offensive production.ย
