On Monday, September 7, 2015, from 12:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., The Maryland State Police- Leonardtown Barrack hosted a sobriety checkpoint, which is intended to detect and deter motorists from driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.ย 

The operation consisted of 13 Troopers from the Maryland State Police- Leonardtown Barrack and three (3) St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriff Deputies.ย  The checkpoint was conducted on MD Rt. 5 south of Mohawk Drive, Charlotte Hall, St. Maryโ€™s County.

The checkpoint focused on the Charlotte Hall area since it has been identified as a high occurrence area of DUI arrests and DUI related collisions.ย  During this operation, a total of 313 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.ย  Of the 313 vehicles, twelve (12) drivers were pulled to the testing area for sobriety testing.ย  As a result, one subject was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana less than 10 grams.ย  Additionally, another subject was also issued a civil citation for possessing marijuana less than 10 grams.
