The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs traveled to Camden, NJ for the final time in the 2013 season to face-off against the Riversharks in a four-game weekend series. After taking two of three from the Bridgeport Bluefish earlier this week with the help of dominant Blue Crabs pitching, the Crabs looked to improve on their success against the ‘sharks by sending right-handed pitcher Ian Marshall to the mound. Marshall (9-5, 3.50), was looking to earn his tenth win on the season after pitching well in his last start against Somerset but was unable to receive much run support in a Blue Crabs 2-1 defeat. The Riversharks countered with a righty of their own in Joey Williamson who had just joined the Riversharks in mid-July. Marshall would pitch well allowing just two runs over six innings of work but the Riversharks would pull away late to earn the 6-0 victory.
Marshall had been in pursuit of his tenth win for a calendar month. After already beating the Camden Riversharks twice this season, Marshall looked poised to beat the ‘sharks again but would run into trouble in the fifth after Chris Walker would hit an RBI triple and would come around to score on a Billy Rice single. The Riversharks would add insurance runs in the seventh as the ‘sharks would come around to score on a crucial Blue Crabs error. The runs would prove to be enough as the Riversharks would hold on to the 6-0 victory.
UP NEXT – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will continue their four-game series against the Camden Riversharks Friday at 7:05pm. Left-handed pitcher Wade Korpi is scheduled to take the ball for the Blue Crabs after pitching well in his most recent start against the Somerset Patriots.
