Lexington Park, MD – Week 2 of TheBayNet.com’s SMAC game of the week featured two Waldorf teams facing off in what many thought would be a competitive battle. However, the game went how it has in the past with North Point blowing out Westlake.
With a final score of 26-6, North Point scored early and often. Junior quarterback Asa Williams threw the ball well against the Wolverines, completing 10 of 17 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown. Williams also ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns. North Point’s other standout player was senior Malik Lawrence. Lawrence filled his leadership role well for the Eagles, recording 107 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown, combined with two interceptions and a pick-six on the defensive side.
Where the leaders on North Point shined, those on Westlake’s team did not perform. Senior quarterback Jalon Spencer was 6 for 22 passing for only 49 yards and three interceptions. The one light was Curtonio Marshall, senior running back, rushed for 93 yards. The only touchdown came from a Spencer pass to senior Nate Tyler after the lone sustained drive by the Wolverines who were otherwise smothered by North Point’s Defense.
North Point travels to Patuxent this week which they should win easily, and Westlake hosts a confident and 2-0 St. Charles team that should test the Wolverines ability to bounce back from last week’s disappointing loss.
