Saturday morning, 19 May, at 9: 17 a.m. fire units from Leonardtown, Hollywood, Seventh District, Bay District Company 9; Leonardtown Company 19 and Hollywood Company 79 were dispatched for a reported working building fire at the Kentucky Fried/Taco Bell restaurant at the corner of Point Lookout Road and Newtowne Neck Road. Initially, restaurant employees smelled smoke inside the building.
Chief 1 arrived on the scene at 9:18 and established Incident Command while reporting “nothing evident.” He was followed by ambulance 197 at 9:19. Leonardtown Engine 10 and Truck 1 arrived at 9:23 followed by Engine 11 at 9:26.
At 9:27, Chief 1 announced he was “holding all Co 1 units, Engine 73 and ambulance 197.” For the next twenty minutes, firefighters investigated the source of the smoke. In short order, they determine the source of the smell was smoking materials outside the building. Chief 1 terminated command at 9:47 and all units were back in service by 10 a.m.
