Southern Maryland Youth Orchestra & Choir (www.smyoc.org) will hold AUDITIONS for the new two-tiered Youth Choir on:
– MONDAY, AUGUST 24 (CAPELLA – ages 13-18)
– MONDAY, AUGUST 31 (TrebleMakers – ages 8-12)
The SMYOC Youth Choir is a two-tiered music program serving singers ages 8-18 in the Tri-County area, focused on a high standard of musical excellence, employing tools such as sight-singing, music theory, vocal anatomy/pedagogy, top-level performances, etc.
About the Choirs:
CAPELLA: Advanced ensemble for experienced singers, ages 13-18. Rehearse Monday eves (late-August to May). Wide range of repertoire spanning pop a-capella to world music, classical, jazz, modern. Performances for festivals, competitions, special events.
TREBLEMAKERS: Beginning-Intermediate level ensemble for singers ages 8-12. Rehearse Monday eves (late-August to May). Several performances per season. Age-appropriate, challenging repertoire.
About the Director:
SMYOC Youth Choir Director and DC native, ANGELICA BROOKS, received her BA in Vocal Performance from Bowie State University and MM in Vocal Pedagogy from The Catholic University of America. A choral director in local churches since age 15, her vast experience has led to the extraordinary success of her top-level, Superior-ratings choir in the Prince George’s County Public School (PGCPS) system where she has directed and inspired youth vocalists for 8 years. A current quarter-finalist for the 2016 Grammy Music Educator of the Year Award, Brooks also serves as the PGCPS Elementary Honors Chorus Director.
