ย The Leonardtown Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved on Monday some changes to the site plan for Clarkโ€™s Rest. Site work for the project is now underway. The project will contain 205 single-family detached homes, 130 townhouses and of three commercial pad sites on 177.3 acres. What was approved on Monday does not change that mix.

The Clarkโ€™s Rest Farm was the location at one time of Leonardtown Dairy and later a horse farm with a nineteenth-century farmhouse sitting on a hillside. The house was demolished for the project.

The commission approved elevations for the various home styles that include garage front-loaded homes surrounding what is a more traditional neighborhood in a grid pattern. Those types of neighborhoods with alleys and garages to the rear are called โ€œneo-traditional.โ€ย  Those front-loaded homes along with some of the townhouses will be constructed first.

The planners also approved a clubhouse, pool and a trail system. The development will have a predominant landmark viewable from Route 235: a stone tower gazebo. There will be a monument sign along Route 5 announcing the entrance and brick pavement along the first section of driveway.

The project is being developed by Marrick Homes, a major residential and commercial builder in Southern Maryland.
