St. Leonard, MD – Authorities in Calvert County have reported that a kayaker who had been reported missing is now safe, prompting officials to call of a search in the Chesapeake Bay. Crews had responded to reports that someone was heard shouting for help about 100 yards offshore from the Flag Harbor area of Long Beach.
The Calvert Control Center has confirmed that the kayaker has been located. He is being evaluated by emergency medical crews. At this time there are no reports of injuries.ย
Original report released shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16
St. Leonard, MD – Shortly after 9 p.m. authorities in Calvert County reported at least one person is believed to be in distress in the Chesapeake Bay off Long Beach just south of Flag Ponds. Rescue crews from Calvert and St. Mary’s counties, along with the Maryland Natural Resources Police are deploying boats at this hour.
A Maryland State Police helicopter is also en route to the scene.
Witnesses at the scene have told authorities they heard someone in the water screaming for help.
