The Sons of the American Legion, Post 238 in Hughesville, Maryland and Jay Armsworthy present Kody Norris & the Watauga Mountain Boys along with Aspen Run on Sunday March 20, 2011. This will be the final American Legion Bluegrass show for the winter season. The shows will start back up in the fall of 2011.
Kody Norris & the Watauga Mountain Boys is a traditional bluegrass band from the mountains of East Tennessee. Traveling around the country in there stretch limousine, they’re often compared to the bluegrass bands of yesteryear. They’re always sharply dressed, playing the traditional “mountain sound” of Bluegrass music like it should be played. The Watauga Mountain Boys have made many appearances on RFD TV’s, “Cumberland Highlanders Show” as well as the tremendously popular PBS television program, “Song of the Mountains” that airs on over 190 stations nationwide and comes from the Lincoln Theater in Marion, Virginia. Kody Norris has played with Dr. Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, Ralph Stanley II, and Doc Watson just to name a few. Not bad for a 22 year old!!
Aspen Run comes from Westminster Maryland and plays hard driving Bluegrass from the musical influences of Jimmy Martin, The Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, and many others. The leaders of Aspen Run, the Martin brothers, started the band in April of 2005. Since they have only been playing a few short years, they have quite a list of accomplishments: The Wheeling Jamboree in Wheeling West Virginia, Delfest in Cumberland, Maryland, and they have been opened several shows with Kody Norris. But there most exciting time of all is to see the foot tapping and smiling faces of their many fans that come to see them.
