UPDATES
11:09 p.m. – In a statement issued this evening, the winner of Maryland’s GOP Senatorial Primary, Delegate Kathyย Szeliga said “Governor Hogan’s successes and support in Maryland, including with Democrats, prove that Marylanders like the change he’s bringing to our state and they will support a candidate, like me, who will bring that same real change to Washington. And that is exactly what I will do. As a small business owner, I will bring business-sense to Washington to get our economy moving again. And as a leader in Annapolis, I have a proven track record of working across the aisle to actually get things accomplished. Washington is broken, and there’s no greater symbol of a broken Washington than Chris Van Hollen. He is the ultimate DC insider, and a part of the problem. I am a part of the solution.”
10:55 p.m. – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement tonight following the primary election in Maryland:
โI am proud to represent Marylandโs Fifth District in Congress and I thank voters for supporting me in the primary election today. I have a proven record as an effective leader who addresses the priorities of families throughout the Fifth District. I have been successful in protecting our military installations and federal facilities, and I will continue to be a strong advocate for bringing the new, consolidated FBI headquarters to Maryland. I will also continue to focus on job creation and ensuring that all Fifth District families and businesses have the tools necessary to compete and succeed in today’s economy.
โI am also pleased that Maryland voters supported Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee for president. I believe she has the experience needed to lead our country. Secretary Clinton has dedicated her life to public service and has consistently stood up for families and children. Maryland residents deserve a leader like Hillary Clinton who will work diligently to ensure that Maryland families have the chance to get ahead and stay ahead.โ
