LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Waldorf woman is facing nine charges, including felony possession with intent to distribute, after a traffic stop in Lexington Park allegedly led deputies to amphetamine, suspected cocaine and a larger quantity of powder believed to be fentanyl.
Kristina Elaine Sharpe, 37, of Waldorf, was arrested Aug. 20 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Pegg Road and Admiral Lane.
According to charging documents, a St. Mary’s County sheriff’s sergeant stopped a white Dodge Durango around 4:39 p.m. for a motor vehicle equipment violation. Sharpe was identified as the front-seat passenger.
A police canine conducted a scan of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics.
Deputies searched the vehicle and reported finding several items on the side where Sharpe had been seated, including a pill bottle containing amphetamine with a torn label, a straw with suspected drug residue, a rock of suspected crack cocaine and a receipt containing suspected powdered cocaine.
Additional items associated with drug use were also recovered, according to the charging documents.
Sharpe was taken into custody.
Additional Suspected Drugs Found
During a search following her arrest, deputies reported finding two cut plastic bags containing suspected cocaine concealed in Sharpe’s bra.
After being advised of her rights, Sharpe agreed to speak with investigators and reported that residue found on the straw was Xanax, according to charging documents.
Sharpe was then transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
During a strip search at the detention center, personnel reportedly discovered another cut plastic bag containing a larger amount of an off-white powdery substance concealed in her bra.
Investigators suspected the substance was fentanyl.
A field test using a TruNarc Raman spectrometer produced an inconclusive result while detecting the presence of mannitol, a substance investigators noted can be used as a cutting agent with controlled dangerous substances.
The investigating deputy wrote that, based on training and experience, the quantity recovered was not consistent with a typical amount for personal use and was instead consistent with an amount used in the distribution of fentanyl.
Nine Charges Filed
Sharpe is charged with:
- Felony possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute
- Three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis
- Three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia
- Removing or altering a prescription drug label
- Possessing or receiving a controlled dangerous substance while confined or detained
Court records show Sharpe was initially ordered held without bond.
At an Aug. 21 bond review, Judge David W. Densford released her on her own recognizance.
A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 18 in St. Mary’s District Court.
