Three motorcyclists among those killed in preventable crashes statewide
GLEN BURNIE, Md. – The Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland State Police continue to urge motorists to Slow the Fast Down and drive safely during the summer travel season and follow these important safety reminders:
- Obey posted speed limits and slow down, especially in work zones.
- Move over for any vehicle with flashing lights, or slow down if you cannot safely change lanes.
- Avoid distractions while driving – including phones, passengers and any activity that takes your attention away from the road ahead.
- Never drive impaired by alcohol or drugs.
- Wear seat belts on every trip, in the front seat and back seat.
- Share the road with pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists.
- Drivers should always look twice before changing lanes and turning, as motorcyclists can be harder to see, especially in a vehicle’s blind spot.
- Avoid aggressive driving and give yourself plenty of time to arrive at
your destination.

It’s interesting to observe how people drive now. It’s not all but many drive like hell won’t have them They may be mistaken since it’s likely that hell isn’t even half full yet. Speed does kill but it’s not just speed. It’s a mind-set where people feel they don’t need to obey speed limits or practice good following distance. It’s distracted driving and just plain “I don’t care”. Traffic enforcement is minimal at best and, it’s obvious that many drivers can’t relied upon to do what’s right. So, I guess, the carnage will just continue on the roads. Maybe it’s natural selection but a lot of innocent people are getting hurt or losing their lives on the road.
