maryland state police trooper 7 fly out

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A 3-year-old child was flown to Children’s National Hospital on Tuesday after a reported near-drowning at Wicomico Shores Public Landing.

Emergency personnel were called to the public landing at 35222 Army Navy Drive in Mechanicsville at approximately 4:37 p.m. on July 7 for a reported drowning or diving accident. Initial reports indicated a 3-year-old boy had been found face down in the water.

Crews arrived and found the child awake and crying, but experiencing difficulty breathing. After consultation with Children’s National Hospital, emergency personnel requested the helicopter.

Trooper 7 launched and landed nearby before transporting the child to Children’s National Hospital for further treatment.

Police are investigating the incident.
