SOLOMONS, Md. — Two motorcyclists were critically injured Friday morning, July 25, 2025, when their bikes collided in the median of Route 4 near Dowell Road in Solomons, prompting a large emergency response and a full closure of the highway.
The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the northbound lanes just before the Southern Connector in Lusby. According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the two motorcycles were part of a larger group ride heading north when the collision took place.
Emergency crews arrived to find one rider semi-conscious and suffering from significant road rash injuries. A Maryland State Police helicopter was requested, and both northbound lanes were shut down at Dowell Road. Southbound traffic was halted at the Southern Connector to allow the helicopter to land safely.
Both riders were flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with critical injuries.
The sheriff’s office said its crash reconstruction team remains on scene and that the investigation is ongoing. The names of the riders have not yet been released, and it is unclear what led to the collision.
Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area as traffic was being detoured. Updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
