Crowds of people stayed cool in the sweltering sun Aug. 5 by taking advantage of the scores of attractions at the Leonardtown Beach Party on the Square.
And for those who were really prepared to cool down, the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department had a tanker truck on hand to provide a hose down for the willing.
To name a few events: There was hula hoop, jump rope and limbo contests; volleyball games, vendors, face painting and performances by the “South-Side Steppers”, Philip DePalo of the Baltimore Jugglers Association, “Mr. Magic”, “Dingbat the Clown”, Mike’s Bikes BMX Team, Troupe “Hip” Notic Middle Eastern Dance troupe, and amazing feats of comedy by nationally known entertainer Michael Rosman, including stilt-walking and unicycling.
The annual Beach Party is sponsored by the Commissioners of Leonardtown and the Leonardtown Business Association. Funding for this event is also provided in part by a grant from the St. Mary’s County Arts Council and sponsor support from scores of businesses and individuals.
