RIDGE, Md. — Firefighters responded early Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, to a house fire in Ridge that prompted reports of possible entrapment and a propane tank explosion.

Crews were dispatched around 2:58 a.m. to the 49800 block of Airedele Road for a reported structure fire.

Initial reports indicated flames were coming from the rear of the home, with multiple callers reporting occupants possibly trapped inside. A propane tank had exploded during the incident.

Responding units encountered a two-story residence with fire showing from the back side of the structure. Additional reports indicated multiple vehicles were also on fire near the home.

Emergency personnel later confirmed that all occupants were able to exit the residence, including individuals in an in-law suite. No entrapment was reported.

At least two cats were believed to still be inside the home during the fire, and efforts were underway to locate them.

One individual, described as an elderly resident, was evaluated at the scene after having difficulty standing. Additional medical support was requested.

Fire crews remained on scene working to control the blaze and prevent further spread. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
