Dominion cove

On Wednesday morning, Nov. 9, Dominion plans to vent a section of the natural gas transmission pipeline at the Dominion Cove Point LNG terminal site to complete necessary maintenance on the pipeline.

Dominion is taking steps to reduce the volume of natural gas that must be vented. The release will be controlled and completed in about 30 minutes or less, within the existing fence line of the terminal.

It will have no safety or health impact on the surrounding area, although the sound may be heard by nearby residents.

The natural gas release may activate the site’s extremely sensitive monitoring system and initiate brief alarms until the gas dissipates in the atmosphere. Natural gas is lighter than air.

As a standard precaution when natural gas venting is scheduled to take place, Calvert County emergency management has been informed of the activity.
