Katie Callander, a born and raised St. Mary’s County native, has deep roots in Southern Maryland, growing up in Callaway and spending her childhood by St. Mary’s Lake. She has a passion for connecting with the local community, uncovering the stories behind the people and businesses of the region. Living so close to the water and surrounded by nature, Katie loves spending time outdoors, particularly hiking at Myrtle Point Park. Her favorite local spots include Asahi Japanese Steak & Seafood, Buckets Bar and Grill, and The Ruddy Duck, where she believes the crab cakes are the best around. Outside of her journalistic work, Katie pursues photography passion projects, traveling across the East Coast and Midwest to capture unique images. Katie’s love for journalism began at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center, where her teacher, Eric Millham, inspired her to tell stories through video, a passion that has since expanded into writing, photography, and graphic design.
