The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs faced off against the Bridgeport Bluefish looking to salvage the final game of the three-game series against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The 11:05am matinee featured La Plata’s own Daryl Thompson for the Blue Crabs facing off against RHP Mike Parisi of the Bluefish. As they had all series, the Bluefish jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Wasting no time in making a comeback, the Blue Crabs would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
Bridgeport got out in front first after four consecutive base hits to start the game and three runs would come around to score for the ‘fish. The Blue Crabs answered back immediately with two runs in the home half thanks to Jose Julio-Ruiz’s fourth homerun on the season. Trailing 3-2 in the fourth the Blue Crabs struck again when catcher, Jose Salas, doubled down the right field line to tie the game up at three. The Crabs would take the lead in the next inning after Brian Barton doubled off the centerfield wall and Jake Opitz stroked a singled to center. Right fielder, Sean Smith, would knock in what proved to be the game-winning run with an RBI single to center in sixth scoring Jeremy Owens. The Bluefish would add one in the seventh but Blue Crabs bullpen would close the door preserving the win for Thompson.
UP NEXT – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will pack their bags and head to Lancaster for the beginning of their longest road trip on the season. The Blue Crabs will send RHP Ian Marshall to the mound in the series opener versus the Barnstormers.
