Waldorf, MD. — Blue Crabs split the double header with the Bluefish Tuesday evening after the first game of the series was postponed Monday due to rain. The first game lasted 10 innings, and the two teams played until 12:32 a.m.
 

Bridgeport scored first with one run in the first inning, but the Blue Crabs put up a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to even the score. The Crabs took a 2-1 lead in the third. Gary Brown and D’arby Brown both singled, and Brown scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Bluefish took back their lead after tacking on a run each in the fifth and sixth innings. Designated hitter Josh Vitters led off the fifth with a double to right field and scored on a single to left by second baseman Luis Hernandez. In the sixth inning, back-to-back singles, a fielder’s choice, and one more base hit allowed Angelys Nina to cross home, making the score 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth the Crabs tied the game once again. Three straight base hits by Eric Garcia, Bryant Nelson, and Angel Sanchez scored one run evening the game at three runs apiece. The score remained tied until the top of the tenth inning, when Endy Chavez drew a leadoff walk and Angelys Nina hit a two-run shot to give the Bluefish the lead. Bridgeport won the first game by the final score of 5-3.

The second game started at 10:10 p.m. Bridgeport scored two in the top of the second, but the Blue Crabs put four runs on the board in next frame, three of which came from a Gary Brown bomb to the picnic deck in left field. Angel Flores and Eric Garcia led off the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles, followed by a pair of singles, a walk, and a sacrifice fly to score three more runs and put the Blue Crabs up 7-2. Southern Maryland tacked on one more insurance run in the next inning after a pair of base hits by Eric Garcia and D’arby Myers.

Right-handed pitcher Joe Van Meter made his Blue Crabs debut in the seventh inning, throwing one inning and allowing one walk and one strikeout. The Blue Crabs won the second game 8-2, and will take on the Bluefish tomorrow in the series finale at 7:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium.
