After four years of planning, the Board of Education of Calvert County Public Schools will break groundย for the new Northern High School building on August 11ย at 9 a.m.

The celebration will begin inย the gymnasium and continue outside at the site of the new construction. The event is open to theย Dr. Daniel D. Curry, Superintendent, said, โ€œItโ€™s not every day that we get to build a new high school, soย this is a special day for our community.โ€

Speakers at the ceremony will include Dr. Daniel D. Curry, Superintendent; Pamela L. Cousins, President,ย Board of Education; The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President, Maryland State Senate; Theย Honorable Mark Fisher, Delegate; The Honorable Michael Jackson, Delegate; and The Honorable Evan K.ย Slaughenhoupt, Jr., President, Calvert County Board of Commissioners.

The building was designed by GWWO, Inc./Architects and will be built by J.A. Scheibel, Inc. The newย school will be built next to the existing building, which will be demolished to make room for a parkingย area once the new construction is complete. The building will seat 1,440 students, interconnect with theย Mary Harrison Cultural Arts Center and have a geothermal heating and cooling system. The project willย include stadium upgrades and be certified as a LEED (Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design) silver building.

The phased construction of the 244,090 square foot building will be completed in 2019.
