On Aug. 28 at approximately 7:30 a.m., units from the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office were dispatched to Rousby Hall Road in the area of Olivet Road in Lusby for the report of a personal injury crash. When units arrived on scene they discovered a 2000 Ford Explorer down a ravine approximately 35 feet from the roadway. There were yaw marks on the roadway leading towards the ravine.ย
The vehicle had been travelling towards the Olivet Road Circle from the area of Drum Point on Rousby Hall Road, entered a sweeping left curve in the roadway and drifted onto the shoulder. The vehicle over corrected, entered into a yaw to the left, crossed the oncoming lane of traffic, rolled over two times, striking several trees before coming to rest. The operator of the vehicle, Hathan Shawn Kerns, advised responding deputies that he had been there since approximately 0130 a.m. that morning. The operator received disabling injuries and was subsequently flown to PG Shock Trauma to be treated.
On Sept. 5 the sheriffโs office reported that Kerns was cited for failing to control his speed to avoid the collision and for driving on a revoked license and privilege.
