Waldorf, MD – March 12, 2020 – Based on current information there are no cases of COVID-19 in Charles County. Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure the Charles County Department of Health (Department) will temporarily suspend approvals for mass gatherings or community events. Events with issued and pending approvals will be rescinded. The suspension does not apply to routine operations of businesses and nonprofit entities.
This situation is evolving and it is recommended for members of the public to assess the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses prior to attending large community events and entering into congregate settings. Due to the inherent design of many community events, it is not always possible to maintain proper social distancing and practice adequate, frequent cleaning of surfaces. The Department will notify the public and event holders when event approvals may resume.
