Christine Murray, affectionately known as “Chris” was born on October 1, 1962, to the late Elaine Wheeler and Randolph Stoddard, Sr. Christine transitioned peacefully to Eternal Life in Heaven on August 12, 2026. She was educated in DC Public School System and received her high school diploma from H.D. Woodson and obtained an Associate Degree in Accounting from Strayer University in 2004. She held several high-profile and demanding positions at companies like BET, Discovery Communications and Smithsonian Institute as an Account Receivable Manager, Staff Accountant and Finance Analyst. Christine loved working with numbers, which made her very smart with finances.
As a child, Christine accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Northeast, Washington, DC. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. Christine rededicated her life to Christ at Union Temple Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of Senior Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Willie Wilson where she served as an Usher and sang in the Young Adult Choir for many years. No matter what trials and tribulations Christine encountered in life, she would always say “God is Going to Take Care of Me”.
Christine had a lively spirit and cared deeply for her family and friends. She sometimes worked two jobs to provide for her family. She never met a stranger due to her love for people, especially hurting people. Her love for people led her to work at Sasha Bruce Youthwork, where she embraced unhoused, hurting and lonely young people. She was consistent in her character to love. Christine was just a very kind and loving person. Always giving from her heart to help others.
Christine loved dancing! Oh, my goodness, she would get up and dance by herself around the house, backyard cookouts, dance clubs and on the job. Her love for dancing started as a very young child where she would dance with her five sisters for hours. Her favorite song as a child was “We are Family – I Got All My Sisters With Me” by Sister Sledge. Hand-dancing was her specialty and then she would freestyle on the dance floor.
Christine loved to look good. Her appearance was very important to her, which was reflected in her wardrobe and hair. Her shoes had to match her outfit. High heels were her signature style. Even in death, her love to help others was demonstrated in her beautiful, fashionable clothes and shoes being donated to Christ The Servant Church to help women who needed a fresh start in life after experiencing abuse.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents Elaine Wheeler and Randolph Stoddard, Sr., two brothers Randolph (Junior) Stoddard, Jr. and Germaine (Maine) Stoddard. Through her marriage to Gregory Murray, Christine leaves to cherish her memory their only child Christina Murray. Yes, she named her daughter after her! One grandson Christian Murray. Five sisters Randoleeda (Randy) Royer, Elmira (Myra) Hawkins, Varry Elaine Flood, Elizabeth (Liz) Johnson and Tracy Gavins. One brother-in-law Charles Johnson, nine nieces and nephews, 15 great-nieces and nephews, one great-great niece Dior Smith and a host of Family and friends.
