LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy visited the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, to learn about the daily operations and programs offered at the facility in Leonardtown.

The Citizens Academy group graduates the eight-week course on Oct. 11, 2018.

With a capacity of 230 beds, the detention center holds those awaiting trial and those sentenced up to 18 months for crimes.

A $25.9 million budgeted expansion project includes a new 64-bed wing, a new medical unit and extensive renovations. Bids are currently out for the project.
