The Department of Natural Resources recently designated Buzz’s Marina, located in Southern Maryland on Saturday’s Choice Farm, six miles north of Point Lookout State Park on St. Jerome’s Creek a Clean Award Certified Marina.

TheBAYNET.com talked with Buzz’s Marina owner, Mike Henderson about the process involved with becoming a Clean Award Certified Marina. According to Henderson, “Most of it common sense – don’t spill fuel into the water, plant landscape to stop erosion, prepare for emergencies and to do what it takes to protect the bay.”
Henderson and wife Christy have owned the marina for only four seasons and worked to get the certification for about a year. “Most of the requirements we had already done on our own. It is just common sense,” said Henderson. He reminisced about the 70s and 80s when anglers on the bay would have to pass through miles and miles of bait to get where they had to fish and when in the shallow creeks and other tributaries, he could wade along the shore and pick up the abundant crabs lining every waterway.
Buzz’s Marina joins a limited list of other clean marinas in Southern Maryland.
