St. Maryโs City, MD – St. Maryโs College of Maryland will waive the application fee for any first-generation student who applies to St. Maryโs College.
Per www.imfirst.org, a first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s) have not completed a bachelor’s degree. This means that that student is the first in his or her family to attend a four-year college to attain a bachelor’s degree.
“First-generation students may not have the inherited understanding of the college application process that a multi-generation college family may have,” said David Hautanen, vice president of enrollment management. โThis action will ensure that we donโt limit anyoneโs access to higher education.โ
โAs a first-generation college student, I understand the overwhelming feelings students can have when starting the college application process,โ said Kristina Anderson, director of admissions. โThis is one way St. Maryโs College can simplify the application process for these students.โ
St. Maryโs College of Maryland is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education through 2024-2025. St. Maryโs College, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Approximately 1,600 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Maryโs River in Southern Maryland.
