St. Maryโ€™s City, MD – St. Maryโ€™s College of Maryland will waive the application fee for any first-generation student who applies to St. Maryโ€™s College.

Per www.imfirst.org, a first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s) have not completed a bachelor’s degree. This means that that student is the first in his or her family to attend a four-year college to attain a bachelor’s degree.

“First-generation students may not have the inherited understanding of the college application process that a multi-generation college family may have,” said David Hautanen, vice president of enrollment management. โ€œThis action will ensure that we donโ€™t limit anyoneโ€™s access to higher education.โ€

โ€œAs a first-generation college student, I understand the overwhelming feelings students can have when starting the college application process,โ€ said Kristina Anderson, director of admissions. โ€œThis is one way St. Maryโ€™s College can simplify the application process for these students.โ€

St. Maryโ€™s College of Maryland is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education through 2024-2025. St. Maryโ€™s College, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Approximately 1,600 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Maryโ€™s River in Southern Maryland.
