Leonardtown, MD – The Constitution of the United States of America is regarded as the
guardian of this country’s liberties. It embodies the principles of government in a Republic dedicated to rule by law. To mark the 230th anniversary of its drafting, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County have declared Constitution Week in the county.
The U.S. Constitution was written on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention.
“It is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its
memorable anniversary,” said Commissioner President Randy Guy.
Public Law 915 guarantees the issuance of a Proclamation which recognizes the week of September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week.
In declaring Constitution Week, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County encourages all citizens to study the Constitution and reflect on the privilege of being an American with all the rights and responsibilities which that privilege involves.
