On April 25 at 1:03 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer W. Halt conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for speeding.
Officer J. Long arrived on the scene and observed a loaded handgun magazine inside the vehicle in plain view. A subsequent search revealed the driver, Johnathan Jerrard Gilliard, 29, of Rosamond, Calif., had a handgun in his vehicle.
Officers also determined Gilliard was intoxicated. Gilliard was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated, having a handgun in his vehicle and speeding. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
