Cumberland, MD — A teenager and a 24-year-old Cumberland man are dead and two teen girls are injured after a crash early Friday morning in Allegany County.

Matthew Glaze, 24, of Cumberland, Maryland, and Allen Welch, 18, of Hancock, Maryland were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Driver Mariah Shoemaker, 18, of Hancock, was transported to Western Maryland Health Center for treatment of her injuries. Passenger Shawna Mason, 19, also of Hancock, was transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Maryland State Police say the accident happened around 1 a.m. on eastbound Route 40, west of Sideling Hill Creek in Allegany County.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Shoemaker, drove off the right side of the road. The two males, who were passengers in the rear seat, been ejected from the vehicle.

Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the crash according to investigators.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team investigation is continuing. Consultation will be made with the Allegany County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office regarding possible charges related to this fatal crash.
