DEALE, Md. — As we continue to explore Anne Arundel County, we love hearing about the places that serve up great food at good prices, where locals are regulars, and you can stop by for a meal any time of day.

South County Cafe is one of those places. Located off Churchton Road in Deale, the cafe is known for its homemade baked goods, tasty coffee menu, and delicious meals. You could truly eat here for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, plus a morning coffee, all in a friendly and casual atmosphere.

South County Cafe Food

What really made South County Cafe special was that they had everything you could want, but it wasn’t overwhelming. The cafe doesn’t serve all three meals at once, and instead has set times for its breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus.

We visited for lunch, where most lunch meals come with house-made chips. The standout sandwich options are the brisket melt, the pork BBQ sandwich, and the Cuban sandwich. We heard great reviews about the breakfast and loved that this cafe’s food, across all meals, is about taste and comfort rather than trying to be different.

You can add fountain or bottled drinks and then, of course, go for some dessert. All the pies are baked on-site. There was also a selection of pastries and cookies, as well as ice cream.

South County Cafe Location

South County Cafe is located on Churchton Road in Deale, just a short drive from parts of Northern Calvert and St. Mary’s counties. It’s definitely worth the drive if you’re in an area that lacks sit-down breakfast options.

Make sure you’re paying attention as you drive on Churchton Road — there’s a huge sign indicating where you need to turn for the cafe, but the cafe itself looks like a house. So even with the sign, you might miss it if you don’t know where to look.

South County Cafe Atmosphere

You order at the counter at South County Cafe, and then a server will bring your food to your table. The cafe has a small area near the counter with stools for people who are stopping by for a quick bite or a cup of coffee, and a dedicated space for takeout orders.

The cafe seems to be in a repurposed house, so if you go up the stairs you’ll find several different rooms with tables. It threw us off at first, but once we got settled, the walls made it so the cafe wasn’t too loud despite having lots of diners at the time. There’s also a patio in front with plenty of picnic tables so you can eat outside.

The cafe is bright, modern and comfortable, and of course leans into the nautical elements of its location by the water in Deale. In addition to the crab on the front door, you’ll find paintings of water birds and crabs inside, too.
