On September 26, 2013 at 11:16pm, Deputy Krum of the Special Operations Division Lexington Park COPs UNIT observed a Ford Explorer stopped on Midway Drive at Pegg Road in Lexington Park, Maryland.
Despite multiple opportunities for the vehicle to make the turn, it remained at the stop sign impeding the flow of traffic. As Deputy Krum approached the vehicle on foot to check on the driver, the driver activated the turn signal and turned onto Pegg Road. The vehicle crossed over both lanes of traffic into the oncoming lane of traffic โ traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Pegg Road.
Deputy Krum immediately returned to his patrol vehicle, activated the vehicleโs emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop and continued to display signs of possible alcohol/drug impairment.
A short distance later, the vehicle turned onto Ronald Drive and came to a stop. The driver locked his door and refused to exit the vehicle. After repeated orders to exit the vehicle, Deputy Krum extracted the driver from the driverโs seat by force.
The driver continued to resist arrest but was eventually taken into custody by Deputy Krum with the assistance of Corporal Ray and Deputy Beishline of the Lexington Park COPs UNIT.ย
The driver was identified as Recoberto NMN Baez, 29, of no fixed address. He was transported to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center and charged with multiple traffic violations to include Fleeing / Eluding Police Officer and Driving While Intoxicated by Deputy Beishline.ย ย
