WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing merchandise from a sporting goods store and assaulting officers during his arrest, according to court documents.
Jamanti Malik Battles, 30, of Waldorf, was arrested April 15, 2026, following an incident at Dick’s Sporting Goods located on Mall Circle.
Police responded after a store employee reported a man leaving the business with unpaid merchandise. Officers located Battles nearby and observed him carrying clothing items, which he attempted to conceal inside a paper bag as they approached.
When officers attempted to detain him, Battles allegedly pushed both officers and resisted arrest, according to the charging documents. During the struggle, he grabbed a pair of glasses from one of the officers and broke them, causing approximately $200 in damage.
Officers were ultimately able to take Battles into custody after a brief struggle. Investigators recovered several clothing items that had been reported stolen, valued at approximately $377.
Battles has been charged with theft between $100 and $1,500, two counts of second-degree assault, and malicious destruction of property.
Following a bail review hearing before Judge Kenneth A. Talley, Battles was released on his own recognizance.
A hearing is set for June 2, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
