accident crash in somd

HUGHESVILLE, Md. — On March 31, 2024, approximately at 10:50 p.m., police and emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on Prince Frederick Road in the area of Siesta Fields Place.

Crews found a two-vehicle collision with several injured occupants, including one who was trapped. Firefighters managed to extricate the trapped individual from the backseat within 30 minutes.

EMS evaluated a total of thirteen occupants in a Chrysler van — five adults and eight children, including two 12-year-olds, two 1-year-olds, a 2-week-old, a 2-month-old, a 4-year-old, and a 3-year-old. The victims were transported by ambulance to various hospitals across the region.

The Maryland State Police’s preliminary investigation revealed that the Chrysler van was stationary on the shoulder when it was rear-ended by a Honda Accord.

The driver of the Honda Accord, Troy Jones, 54, of Huntingtown, Maryland, was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence and other related traffic offenses. Jones was transported to the Charles County Detention Center, where he awaits his initial appearance.

The driver of the Chrysler van may also face charges following a consultation with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Maryland State Police.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

  1. Talk about putting all your Easter eggs in one basket! No reason to charge the driver though, that’s literally adding insult to injury.

  2. Yes the drunk driver is responsible however, the van driver should be held responsible for having all of those kids in a van knowing they don’t have seats
