At 1:25 am, on March 31, Charles County Sheriff’s Officer T. Yates conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Stratus after it failed to stop for a stop sign on Strauss Avenue at Hawthorne Road in Indian Head.
The vehicle fled from Officer Yates and crashed into a fence behind a residence on Jameson Court. The driver ran from the car but was quickly apprehended. The vehicle had been left in gear and was stopped by a tree nearby.
Investigation revealed the driver, Nathan Ellsworth Proctor, 23, of Indian Head, had a suspended license and was intoxicated. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana, drug paraphernalia and two open alcohol containers.
Ellsworth was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving while impaired, driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license, speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign.
He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. No one was injured.
