La Plata, MD – Units from La Plata, Waldorf, Bel Alton, Potomac Heights, Hughesville, Marbury and Newburg Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a fire on Burning Bush Place in La Plata around 7:30 a.m. Sept. 3.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal the occupants woke up to the smell of smoke and discovered the fire in the basement. The fire department was able to contain the fire to the basement but smoke and water damage was significant throughout.
All occupants were able to escape without injury however, they were displaced as a result of the fire. Family members are assisting.
Damage is estimated at about $70,000. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
