Port Tobacco, MD— On October 22, 2016, at approximately 01:46 a.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to a collision on Maryland Route 6 in the area of Retreat Place, Port Tobacco, Maryland.  As a result of the collision, a male operator received life-threatening injuries.      

A preliminary investigation conducted by Troopers from the La Plata Barrack, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police Southern Region Crash Unit, indicates a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue operated by Manuel Carlos Gonzalez,  28 , of Port Tobacco, MD was traveling on westbound Maryland Route 6 in the area of Retreat Place.  Mr. Gonzalez failed to drive in a single lane. The Oldsmobile traveled across a driveway becoming airborne and collided with a tree. 

Mr. Gonzalez was transported to Washington Hospital Center by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 2 with life-threatening injuries. 

On October 23, 2016, at approximately 01:15 a.m., Mr. Gonzalez succumbed to his injures at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
