A fire Monday morning caused significant damage to a home on Bensville Road in White Plains. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office the blaze caused $100,000 damage to the structure and $50,000 to the contents of the home owned by Pat and Lisa Boyer.
According to Deputy State Fire Marshall Jon Nelson the fire originated in a bedroom of the single-story, wood-framed residence.
The fire was discovered by an occupant and reported at 10:40 a.m. It took 35 firefighters from the Waldorf, La Plata, Bryans Road, Potomac heights, Bel Alton and Accokeek volunteer fire departments 10 minutes to bring the fire under control.
All of the occupants in the house were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
