Just before 6 a.m. July 4 a pickup truck refused to stop and fled a Maryland State Trooper while driving on Three Notch Road in Lexington Park.

The trooper chased the truck south on 235, on to FDR Blvd where the pursuit ended when the pickup truck crossed Great Mills Road and crashed into Roses Place.

Bay District Volunteer Fire Sergeant Jeff Evans reports firefighters arrived to find a vehicle about half way through the structure leaking fluid.

Everyone was out of the vehicle and was not injured. The crews went work stabilizing the structure and SMECO was called to secure power to the business. No one was injured.

Adam Knight, Deputy Code Official for St. Mary’s County told The Bay Net that he responded to the scene shortly after the crash to access damage to the structure.

Knight said it appeared the truck crashed into the front of the building, went completely inside and struck a main supporting beam standing in the center of the structure. The vehicle then bounced back several feet toward the new opening in the building wall.

After an assessment Knight declared the building unsafe to be occupied and an official do not enter noticed was posted on the building.

The State Police or St. Mary’s County have not yet released information on the driver. Check back with The Bay Net as more details become available.
