Leonardtown, MD – The St. Mary’s County Commissioners have selected Daniel Carney to fill the term of Marilyn Crosby on the St. Mary’s County Board of Education. Crosby resigned for health reasons effective Sept. 30. The term runs until the November 2016 election.

Carney (pictured, left) is the former chief financial officer for the school system, first under former Superintendent Dr. Patricia Richardson and then under Dr, Michael Martirano.ย
According to the Maryland Manual and the St. Mary’s County website, Carney is currently a member of the St. Mary’s County Ethics Commission and the Economic Development Commission.
The commissioners have not released any biographical information on Carney.
Thirty-four people applied for the vacancy and the commissioners interviewed a number of them (anyone who responded to the request) during three recent sessions.
One of the applicants who interviewed for the position complained to The BayNet about the process on the condition of anonymity. That applicant told the BayNet he had heard from a number of people that the decision had already been made by the commissioners to appoint Carney even while the interview process was ongoing.
