| Thompson and Ellie Cantrell |
A crowd of friends, family and acquaintances gathered Tuesday night at Catamaranโs in Solomonโs to remember Robin โCookieโ Thompson, who died suddenly March 31.
A benefit was held to help the two sons, Jason and Nicholas, of the โgentle giantโ, as some remember him, pay for his final expenses. Thompson died at 51 of an apparent heart failure.
Thompson was well known on Solomonโs Island. He most recently worked security at Catamaranโs, but during his 10 years off and on at the restaurant/bar he was also a chef.
โHe was the best chef I ever had,โ said girlfriend of two years Ellie Cantrell, who has knownย Thomson for 24 years.
During his 22 years cooking, he also worked as a chef for Damonโs, Neptunes, Holiday Inn and Asbury retirement center.
โHe was awesome,โ said Cantrell, who added he also loved his motorcycle and was a member of the Maryland Knights motorcycle club.
โIt was a really great turnout,โ Cantrell said of the benefit.
โEven though he was really outgoing and funny, he was also humble and he would have been surprised by the number of people there,โ she added.
โHe touched so many peopleโs lives โฆ Everybody who met him went away with a smile.โ
Anyone who missed Cookieโs benefit and is interested in helping his sons can contact The Bay Net to be put in touch with his family.
