Lexington Park, MD – Chopticon traveled to Great Mills, where the Hornets earned their first win of the season. Great Mills defeated the Braves 40-17. The Hornets have not posted stats from the contest, but Chopticon has. The Braves threw six interceptions and only recorded 100 passing yards. Chopticon was able to rush for 202 yards, with Devyn Vukovich (So) leading the team at 112 yards. Chopticon hadn’t lost to Great Mills since 2009. Great Mills (1-5) travels to Huntingtown (5-1) Friday at 7 p.m. The (2-4) Braves hosts (3-3) Lackey Friday at 7 p.m.

North Point improved to (6-0) after they handled Northern at home, winning, 34-24. Northern held their own in the first quarter, with the game tied 10-10 but the Patriots didn’t score again until the fourth quarter. Freshman quarterback Zach Crounse, the coach’s son, started the game, leading the team by completing 8 of 20 passes for 155 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Northern threw for 224 total yards and three interceptions. The Patriots rushed for an additional 77 yards and intercepted North Point on their first two possessions. North Point had a balanced run/pass game, rushing for 147 yards and passing for 149. Corey Johnson (Jr) led the team with 82 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Asa Williams (Jr) completed 5 of 17 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Northern (4-2) travels to Leonardtown (0-6) Friday at 6 p.m. and (6-0) North Point faces (6-0) St. Charles away for the SMAC GOTW this week at 7 p.m.

Thomas Stone had to travel to Huntingtown, days after former teammate, 17-year-old Elisha Amon Cole, was shot and killed in Waldorf. The Hurricanes welcomed the Cougars, with students stopping their tailgate to clap as Stone passed and Huntingtown cheerleaders giving flowers to Thomas Stone’s. The two teams came together after the game for a prayer on the 50-yard line.
