
ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Bonnie M. Green as Chair of the Historic St. Mary’s City Commission. A respected leader with deep ties to Southern Maryland, Green brings decades of experience in public service, nonprofit leadership, and regional collaboration to her new role.
Green currently serves as the Executive Director of The Patuxent Partnership, where she leads initiatives that connect government, industry, and academia to support the U.S. Navy and the broader Department of Defense community. Her career also includes service as Deputy Maritime Administrator at the U.S. Department of Transportation and as a senior advisor with Catholic Relief Services.
A longtime advocate for education and historic preservation, Green has held leadership roles across numerous Southern Maryland institutions, including the Board of Advisors for the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland. An alumna of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Green served as President of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Foundation and as a member of the Board of Trustees for thirteen years. Her past and ongoing service also includes board leadership with Historic Sotterley and other prominent regional organizations.
Green has served on the Historic St. Mary’s City Commission since 2021, most recently as Vice Chair. She also contributed 12 years of service on the Historic St. Mary’s City Foundation Board. Her appointment as Commission Chair reflects her strong commitment to the museum’s mission and her extensive experience in governance and community engagement.
“I am excited to partner with Ms. Green as we drive HSMC’s mission to protect St. Mary’s City and educate the public on its significance,” said David O’Donnell, Executive Director of HSMC. “Ms. Green’s experience and community passion will be instrumental in preparing us for Maryland’s 400th anniversary in 2034. ”
As Chair, Green will work with Commission members and museum leadership to support strategic initiatives, strengthen partnerships, and further Historic St. Mary’s City’s mission as a National Historic Landmark and outdoor museum of living history and archaeology.
The Commission also extends its sincere appreciation to Rear Admiral Timothy L. Heely, US Navy (ret.), for his dedicated service as Chair. His leadership has helped guide Historic St. Mary’s City through a period of continued growth and impact. The Commission is pleased to announce that Linda Kohler will serve as Vice Chair, supporting the organization’s ongoing work and future initiatives.
